At 12.11 hrs IST, The Nifty slips below 5900 mark on back of heavy selling in banks, realty and pharma stocks. Buying was seen in IT and telecom stocks.
The Sensex was down 94.29 points or 0.48% at 19704.90, and the Nifty was down 45.15 points or 0.76% at 5898.95. About 1224 shares advanced, 1439 shares declined, and 798 shares remain unchanged.
The Bank Nifty was down more than 2% ahead of credit policy tomorrow. Heavyweights like ICICI Bank and SBI were down close to 3% each. Kotak Mahindra Bank, IDBI, HDFC Bank and PNB were down more than 2% each.
Top gainers on the Sensex: Infosys, Reliance Communiactions, TCS, Bharti Airtel and Sterlite Industries were up 0.5-1.5%.
Top losers on the Sensex: DLF, ICICI Bank, SBI, Cipla and HDFC Bank were down 2-3%.
In the midcap space, KS Oils, KGN Industries, PTC India, Patni Computer and Marico were up 3-14%. Bajaj Electricals, Indian Metals, Money Matters, Shipping Corp and Dena Bank were down 4-5%.
In the smallcap space, Elpro Int, Uflex, Murli, Kalyani Steels and Carol Info were up 5-10%. On the losing side, Sandur Manganese, Rollatainers, SE Investments, Zylog Systems and SVC Resources were down 5-10%.
The rupee weakened on Wednesday drifting away from a near one-week high reached in the previous session as broad gains in the dollar versus major currencies and weak local shares weighed.
