Nifty tests 5900; realty, banks down over 3%

At 15.01 hrs IST, the Nifty was trading below 5900 mark with negative bias. It was a weak session for the markets as Nifty was down close to 1% on back of heavy selling in banks and realty stocks. Selling was also seen in consumer durables, pharma, auto and metal stocks.

The Sensex was down 188.15 points or 0.95% at 19611.04, and the Nifty was down 57.45 points or 0.97% at 5886.65. About 860 shares advanced, 2042 shares declined, and 560 shares remain unchanged.

In the largecap space, BPCL, Bharti Airtel, TCS, Infosys and HCL Tech were up 1-4%. Hero Honda was down close to 6% post buzz of termination of joint venture between Hero and Honda. DLF was down close to 5%. Kotak Mahindra Bank, Suzlon Energy and SBI were down 4-6%.

Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,046.50 down 0.58% from its previous close of Rs 1,052.60. Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 412.30 up 2.63% from its previous close of Rs 401.75. Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 3,200.10 up 1.56% from its previous close of Rs 3,151.05.

Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 298.50 up 0.2% from its previous close of Rs 297.90. Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 166.90 down 0.86% from its previous close of Rs 168.35.

Top gainers on the BSE Midcap: KS Oils, KGN Industries, Indraprastha Gas, Patni Computer and United Brewerie were up 3-13%.

Top losers on the BSE Midcap: Jubilant Food, UCO Bank, Dena Bank, SpiceJet and Indiabulls Real were down 5.5-6.7%.

Top gainers on the BSE Smallcap: Elpro Int, Odyssey Fin, Graviss Hosp, Vakrangee and Carol Info were up 5-10%.

Top losers on the BSE Smallcap: Sandur Manganese, Accentia Techno, Henkel India, Ganesh Housing and Sequent Scienti were down 7-10%.
