the Nifty was trading in a band of 5900-5950 mark amid volatility. Selling pressure was seen in realty and banking stocks ahead of credit policy tomorrow. IT and telecom stocks witnessed some buying in trade today. The broader markets too were trading flat.
The Sensex was down 34.56 points or 0.17% at 19764.63, and the Nifty was down 7.10 points or 0.12% at 5937.00. About 1304 shares advanced, 1268 shares declined, and 889 shares remain unchanged.
New listing MOIL was trading around Rs 530-540 mark. The issue price was fixed at Rs 375 per share.
Top gainers on the Nifty: BPCL, Reliance Communications, Reliance Power, Infosys and TCS were up 1-5%.
Top losers on the Nifty: DLF, ICICI Bank, SBI, HDFC Bank and PNB were down 2-2.5%.
Index heavyweight Reliance was trading at Rs 1,052.60 down 0% from its previous close of Rs 1,052.60. Tech major Infosys was trading at Rs 3,193.00 up 1.33% from its previous close of Rs 3,151.05.
Cigarette major ITC was trading at Rs 167.35 down 0.59% from its previous close of Rs 168.35. Hindustan Lever was trading at Rs 298.10 up 0.07% from its previous close of Rs 297.90. Refinery major HPCL was trading at Rs 423.00 up 5.29% from its previous close of Rs 401.75.
In the midcap space, KGN Industries, Marico, PTC India, Patni Computer and Shriram City were up 2.5-5%. On the losing side, Money Matters, Indian Metals, Glodyne Techno, Glenmark and Bajaj Electric were down 3-5%.
In the smallcap space, Religare Technova, Elpro Int, Mah Polybutenes, Apar Ind and MarathonNextgen were up 5-14%. Asian Hotel (W), Urja Global, Sujana Towers, Midfield Industries and SVC Resources were down 5-7%.
